The School of Montessori Inc.

Thank you for your interest in the School of Montessori Inc.  We are an Associated Montessori International (AMI) accredited school.  We are parent owned and operated, which means we are dependent on parent participation for our school to be a sucess. The reward of this system is excellent developmental and educational opportunities us Dr. Maria Montessori's teaching methods.  Our program is 3 years long, and serves children 3 to 6 years old, where a child starts in the half day program and extends through full day pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten.  Extended Care hours are available to all students.

"Our care of the child should be governed, not by the desire to make him learn things, but by the endeavor always to keep burning within him that light which is called intelligence."

-Maria Montessori

What is Montessori?

Dr. Maria Montessori was born in Italy in 1870 and died in Holland in 1952.  Upon her death, her son Mario became sucessor in the direction of the Association Montessori International, with headquarters in Amsterdam.

Dr. Maria Montessori believed that education begins at birth, and that the first few years of life are the most formative and important, both physically and mentally.

Too many adults fail to think of a young child as an intelligent human being, capable of learning. Montessori's "discovery of the child" was a true awakening in the advancement of early education.  She spoke of the child's mind as the "absorbent mind" because of its great ability to learn and assimilate effortlessly to the world around him.  She was quick to point out, however, that "the environment should reveal the child, not mold him"

Montessori materials are always well made, well maintained, and neatly arranged on the shelves.  Everything in the classroomhas a specific use, and there is nothing there that the child cannot see or touch, for this is how they learn.

Our mission at the School of Montessori is to provide Montessori education to the children according to the principles of Dr. Maria Montessori, to cultivate the child's own desire to learn by making use of the sensitive periods and the absorbent mind, to develop self-discipline in a child by allowing freedom of activity and maturity, and to educate parents about the Montessori Method.
